                                 WORLD WAR I

           Company "C” First Infantry Regiment was organized and mustered into the
        National Guard of Florida on June 17,1917. On August 5,1917, all National Guard
        Units were drafted into Federal Service. They moved by train to Camp Wheeler,
        Macon, Georgia in September of 1917. About five thousand people with two
        hundred automobiles gathered at Union Station to see them off. After training at
        Camp Wheeler, the officers and men were transferred to new units. The units went
        to France with the American Expeditionary Force.
