DEDICATION
This history is dedicated to those persons of Columbia County
who never had the skill or opportunity to write about or photo­
graph their lives. There were people here who lived and died,
never fully aware of their origins or the significance of their
experiences.
Acknowledging their sacrifices, we dedicate this book to these
persons who were so busy with the tasks of birthing, living and
dying that they never had a chance to record their existence. It is
their story that we want to tell and preserve, so that, others may
know the way we were.
If our story is incomplete, it only emphasizes our initial thesis.
Therefore, we sing a song of the unsung: All the flowers of today
were in the seeds of yesterday; all the flowers of tomorrow are in
the seed of today.
