Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams

                                                 Old Watertown

                                                  By Helen Hill

The little church is still standing in Old Watertown

and the old train... it still rumbles by... The whistle

Pierces the face of the night, bringing tears to these eyes

of mine. East Coast Lumber, Granger Mill, tired

Workers trudging home, trodding dirt roads, sweat on

their brow, but now these fine folks are gone.

Watertown Trading Company (company store), what a

wonderful place it had seemed! With commissary

Tokens, the world could be yours! At least when a little

child dreamed! A quarter could get you into the

Pool at the Hollingsworth House back then! Or you

might play ball in the old churchyard with Bud

Brady and some of his friends. But Watertown’s quiet

now, most folks are gone. Even “Eight Spot” and

“Moonshine Line’s” done. Yet in my memories, they all

come alive... Oh, we had so much fun! But years

Are Mile Markers and we traveled far, just look at how

far we have come! So now it’s time to reminisce

And share the good things God has done. For the Memory

is a Gift of days gone by; tied with ribbons of

Dreams we have found. So come, my friend, let us sit a spell,
