Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams
The school with grades 1-8, has an enrollment of two-hundred twenty-
four of which 95% is transported approximately twelve to fifteen miles
daily.
The teaching staff includes eight teachers, one music supervisor, two
lunchroom helpers, one part-time custodian, and one principal.
Because of the opposition to the proposed consolidation, with reference
to the site location, an attempt to satisfy the people in both communities
was made by erecting the school site midway between the two schools
first involved in consolidation (Bethlehem and Fort White). This brought
the school site back to the Old Goodintent School site. One year later
two other schools (Kiota and Saint James) were consolidated.
The community lacks organized recreation and profitable leisure-time
activities for young people. Because of this, the school had an
opportunity to make a contribution to the consolidated communities
through a program of organized recreation for both children and adults
by coordinating the school-community relationship.
(Mildred Bennett, Fort White-Bethlehem principal for many years, and
an educator known for her writing and research skills probably
developed this material.)
