Barefoot In The Sand: Remembering the Waning Days of the Hopewell Community (1998) Bruce C. Gragg 58/123
The primary contributing factor, we had a family that really cared
for us and wanted to give us all they could, that made a difference.
We shared many an hour those years and never once felt deprived of
the city life, we just found fun things to do without doing harm to
anyone or anything. If we wanted only to laze around and rest, or go
off into the wild world of make-believe we could do it with a lot of
fun, excitement and enjoyment. Also, we could always count on there
being some kind of treat or snack along the way. It is amazing how
one memory being recalled will trigger another and another. Some
things I have not thought of in many years have suddenly come to
mind, some in minute detail, names, dates and places. I am sure there
are some rather funny or amusing events that have gone completely
from memory. Some things would not be very interesting to anyone not
there at the time and being involved with the event. I wish my
children could have had some the experiences I enjoyed while growing
up. Then again times have changed so dramatically over the last forty
or so years, nothing would or could be the same even if we tried to
make them.
