Around the middle of September, there seems
to be a spell cast over CHS. This spell keeps feet,
hands, minds, and spirits constantly on the go. This
       spell is football.
Varsity football brings joy, excitement, sadness,
and inspiration to the students of Columbia High
School, but only the players know the real meanings
and feelings which accompany such a game. They
saw, they felt, and they knew the tension that was
built by their unsuccessful beginning. To prove to
themselves and the student body that they have
what it takes, they broke Starke's thirty game win-
ning streak with a 12 to 6 victory.
The highlight which brought this season to a close
was the Quarterback Club football banquet. Awards
were presented to the players who had been out-
standing through thick and thin, and football jackets
were given to senior players and cheerleaders. Kyle
Rote, a former New York Giant football player, was
the main speaker for the night. His words of advice
and the memories made that night will always bring
to our minds the football season of 1962.
