Democracy Speakinq Out
" What America Means to Me"
This is the topic that fourteen CHS
students were judged on in the an-
nual Voice of Democracy Contest.
The students were judged on the de-
livery, originality and content of
their speech. Some of the rewards
from giving the speech are in-
creased self-confidence, experi-
ence in communicating with others.
The participants wrote and then
tape recorded a three to five minute
broadcast script expressing their
views on "What America Means to
Me". By thinking, writing and speak-
ing of America, the young people
who take part in this program gain a
better appreciation of their obliga-
tion to maintain the nation's free-
dom heritage. The winners chosen
receive a total of $22,500 in Scholar-
ships. The first place winner re-
ceives $25.00, second place $15.00
and third place $10.00. The sponsor
of the Voice of Democracy Contest
is the Veterans of Foreign Wars
(VFW).
