Ponytails. Smiles. That is what
cheerleading is really all about--or
is it? The Varsity Cheerleading
team at Columbia High School
does more than just smile and
cheer. Practices are more than
just "facials" and painting the
banner the football team runs
through every Friday night. Plenty
of blood, sweat and tears are lost
at their practices. Think about
this--other sports require special
equipment to prevent injuries like
helmets and padding--
cheerleaders use no equipment
and never hesitate to throw a girl
fifty feet in the air. It would not be
out of the ordinary for a varsity
cheerleader to leave practice with
a hundred bruises, a broken
ankle, and not to mention,
dripping with sweat. The next
