Freshmen year is the best and worst 36 weeks all packed
into one heavy rolling book bag of chaos, excitement, smiles,
tears, and a lot of sleepless nights. But most of all, it's a new
beginning. We are no longer the "big dogs" on our middle
school campus, just little fish in a big pond.
Even with the halls crowded like a New York City rush hour,
"fresh tiger meat" can be spotted a mile away sporting a
paper bag lunch in one hand and the school map in the other.
In a race to beat the bell, "slow" is not in our vocabulary. Spare
time is spent touching up hair and make-up because we
haven't quite grasped the concept of "bumming it."
Though oftentimes viewed as an ant under a magnifying
glass, we slowly manage to adjust to the high school scene.
As we gain new friends yet hang on to the old, a year of trial
and error helps us pinpoint who our true friends are. And with
rivals from opposite middle schools no longer viewed as
competition, we come together for the first time, forming the
next generation of olumbia High School Tigers.
