0 . With a year behind us and TWO ahead, we are happily stuck in the mid-
dle. We aren't the big dogs on campus (yet), but at the same time we aren't freshmen
anymore. Our nails freshly painted and our hair carefully thought out, we approach
our sophomore year with enthusiasm and relief that we are no longer at the bottom
of the food chain. Starting sophomore year with new AP textbooks on our backs and

cell phones in place, we are ready for the real high school experience to begin .
._ ..... c.o ... O. Having new found confidence and ZERO tolerance for the new fresh-
men, who we were last year, we approach the commons with excitement. After spot-
ting our friends and catching up, we walk to our new classes with zeal. No longer will

we be lost or confused by the curving hallways. We've finally found our footing .
. After receiving ONE textbook after another, we realize we might actu-
ally have to study this year. This is our last year taking the FCAT; if we pass. We've

been reevaluating our intelligence through the FCAT for years now. Graduating from
the recycled stories of the NRT makes this year even more exciting, but for some of
us passing would give us the advantage of being exempt from our winter exams. As
our folders are already bursting with syllabus's we have to get signed for an "easy
A," we go through the motions of our new classes. We stare at the clock hoping it will
mercifully grant us lunch time .

. The day is almost over as we make our way to last block. Some of our
friends are already on their way home, having opted for early bird. All we can think
about is getting in our very own, very old car. Although the duct tape holds it togeth-
er, covering most of the paint job, and a scented tree hangs on our mirror to hide the

smell of "Uncle Ernie", we still imagine zooming out of the parking lot like we own
this place. However, our last glance at the clock breaks the sad news that it's only
TWO o' clock. After our last lecture of the day about texting in class is over, the bell
rings at 3:08pm and we are finally free.
