MR. JIM WILSON
TEACHER OF THE YEAR FWHS 2004
COLUMBIA COUNTY TEACHER OF THE YEAR
2004-2005
Mr. Wilson can remember the days when he started
teaching and was just a regular teacher taking notes
and having his students take tests. Though those
days are long gone, they are still fresh in his
memories. Mr. Wilson has taught for sixteen years,
three of which were here at FWHS.
Mr. Wilson decided in 1998 to focus his career on one
direction - mathematics. A decision that focused his
attention on unique approaches of teaching. While
attending a conference he learned mathematics
teaching was about a lot of different things. It's about
activities, projects, manipulatives and creative
products.
Mr. Wilson says his favorite thing is when you're in the
middle of a mathematical problem and you see the
faces glazed over, the students don't know what
they're doing and you come up with a different
strategy, give them a different light on things and, all of
a sudden, those faces change, you know you've made
a connection.
Mr. Wilson enjoys tennis, piano, singing, theatre and
sailing in his free time. He is truly proud of his
students and the faculty at FWHS. He is a true Indian!
Mr. Wilson is an inaugural member of the Fort White High School Faculty and has served as the Math Department
Chairperson for the past four years. He is an innovator in his classroom, striving for the best teaching practices to assist
students in learning mathematics He works many long hours to make Fort White High School a productive place for
everybody. He is a true asset to our school and to the teaching profession as a whole.
I speak for the rest of the faculty and staff at our school when I say we are proud that Mr. Wilson is the first Fort White High
School teacher to be named the Columbia County Teacher of the Year. I am pleased to dedicate this yearbook page to him
and wish him congratulations!!
Sincerely,
