History of Military Units in Columbia County, FL (1970) Robert Gary Shields
On January 20, 1968, after almost 21 years as a Tank Company, the
Lake City unit was converted and redesignated 153rd Engineer Company, 53rd
Infantry Brigade. Many of the members of the unit held civilian jobs which
complemented their new MOS while others had a natural talent for working
with their hands and with heavy machinery. This helped make the conversion
to engineers much easier. ■ Already-.the Lake City unit has began to build
the reputation;as Engineersjwhich is so traditional with the prior Lake ■
City units - that of bein;gf one of the sharpest and finest units in the
State.
