Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams
Dr. Tribble came to us with a ripe Christian experience, brilliant
intellect, young and vigorous, and rapidly endeared himself to the people
of Florida. The college was in safe hands. Quite naturally the new
president would make changes in the faculty, but eveiything was done
so skillfully and with such wisdom and foresight that the work went
forward without a hitch or break.
The third year started off with a stronger faculty than before, and a
larger student body, and with great enthusiasm.
The college prospered in every way except financially. But and if the
many pledges made under the leadership of Drs. Robertson and Lewis
Warren, had been promptly paid there would have been no financial
worries.
It takes money, and a great deal of it, to run a college. The fees and
tuition paid in to an institution of learning are never sufficient to meet its
obligations.
The Subscriptions (pledges) made were only paid in part, leaving a large
part of the running expenses to be met out of mission funds. Those
Subscriptions were supported to provide endowment funds.
Tragically, Dr. Tribble was out down by the Grim Reaper and passed
away, Februajy 6, 1912.
His going was sad and untimely. He was stricken in the very prime of
life. It was a serious blow to Columbia College and all of its interests.
However, the trustees face the issue with courage and faith, and placed
Dean W. D. Jones at the head of the school.
