A Columbia County Boy's Recollections and Memories of Columbia County Florida (2012) Lenvil H. Dicks
STEAK, SHRIMP, AND ONION RINGS
As 1 put my thoughts down on paper today, which is May 31,2012, my good buddy Happy Jack and 1
have just returned from Live Oak where we had lunch at the Dixie Grill. An accounting of my memories
would be incomplete if I did not mention the dozens and dozens of times, if not hundreds, that I have
eaten in the Dixie Grill Restaurant in Live Oak, owned and operated by my good friend Charles
Thomas.
The seafood and the steaks are as good as any you will ever taste anywhere, and I have eaten French
fried onion rings from San Francisco to New York to New Zealand to Honolulu, and many points in
between, and I have never encountered any French fried onion rings that can match what the Dixie Grill
puts on the table. I am worried that this is a fairly small part of the recollection of my life, but the
occasions on which I have eaten French fried onion rings at the Dixie Grill needs to be mentioned. 1 do
not know how far into the future Charles will continue to operate the Dixie Grill, but, Lord willing, this
is not the last time that I will partake of his French fried onion rings. They are out of this world.
