Some Stuff I Wrote (2001) H. Morris Williams

Farther down the road, another thought flashed through my mind: if somewhere back in time
there had been the tiniest shift in gravity, our places might have been exchanged.

I still think and wonder about Cleve these 40 years later.
“Cleve! Cleve! Are you out there somewhere? Come see me sometime, old friend. We’ve

               got lots to talk about.”

From Dr. Kay to Dr. Al
                                                      June 28, 1994

Lake City Community College president Muriel Kay Heimer wrote these lovely words about

Alfonso Levy when the college named the Performing Arts Center in his honor: “Coming from a
humble background, he was bom with the soul of an artist and he never lost sight of his art. He has

taught our children. He is one of this country’s most outstanding teachers and education
administrators, touching the lives of thousands of students and families in Columbia County. He has

supported our organizations. He has soothed us with his artistry. He has been a leader among
citizens from all walks of life.

“When times are difficult, he serves as a mediator and peacemaker. When times are good, he
warms us all with his joy and zest for life. Let all future generations of students and citizens know

that this was a man who dared and this was a man who cared.” What a perfect tribute and Alfonso
              Levy deserves every word!

FAREWELL, DEON... With the graduation of the CHS class of 1994,1 personally hate to
see the departure of student Deon Crumitie. Deon was a first-team Tiger running back for two and

one half years. He was an extremely hard working, dedicated young man who ran untold miles in
the early morning darkness all alone to stay in shape. He was a marked man every game. Hard

hitting teams like Live Oak and Valdosta teed off on him. He often played hurt, with multiple
injuries. Yet he was a Tiger through and through. He took the licking and kept on ticking and led

our Tigers to the state playoffs. Who can ever forget his dramatic touchdown run to win the
Valdosta game! Best wishes, Deon - and thanks for the memories!
