The 1955 Columbia  High
                                                                                          Tigers,  rated  by  some
                                                                                          sportswriters as one of the
                                                                                          top teams in the  confer-
                                                                                          ence,  swung  into  action
                                                                                          when  they  played  their
                                                                                          gridiron opener against
                                                                                          Fernandina.  Although
                                                                                          many  vacancies were  left
                                                                                          from  the  1954 season,  the
                                                                                          Ttgers had  very good
                                                                                          chances.  The  Tigers  made
                                                                                          a highly  impressive  debut
                                                                                          in  the opening game.  The
                                                                                          backfield displayed  the
                                                                                          power of a  seasoned  squad,  ,
                                                                                          while  the line  put in some
                                                                                          rugged  blocking and  tack-
                                                                                          ling.  After clawing Fer-
                                                                                          nandina,  the  Tigers setout
                                                                                          for  a  new  prey--Kennyl 1
                                                                                          Although the  Tigers  took
                                                                                          this  game by  13  points,
                                                                                          holding Kenny  scoreless,
                                                                                          they had  to  be  "Up and  on
                                                                                          their toes",  as  Bishop Ken-
                                                                                          ny had  one of the  top teams
                                                                                          in  the conference .

         Out for  their  third  vic-
       tory,  the  Lake  City  team
       clashed with Ocala,  tak-
       ing the  spotlight as  con-
       tenders for  another N.E.C.
       championship.  All fired
       up  after  their  14-0 victory
       over  the  Ocala Wildcats,
       they were  ready  to  take
       on  P. K.  Younge.  Smoth-
       ering the  Blue  Waves,  our
       team was well on  the
       march  to repeat last years
       championship.
