The American Legion Post in Lake City nommates several juniors each year to represent Columbia High
at Boys and Girls' State held during the summer at Florida State University. The students nommated give a
speech to members of the Amencan Legion telling why they would like to particip3te in the week's events in
Tallahassee. They also inform the members of their extracurricular activities. Those chosen take part in mock
elections and fulfill the responsibilities of governmental offices during the week.
