Ceremonies were held at various times during the year at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington to commemorate the tenth anniversary of
the fall of the Saigon government in Vietnam. The Vietnam Memorial is inscribed with the names of more than 58,000 dead or missing soldiers
from the Vietnam war.
January 28, 1986, the space shuttle Challenger exploded killing all seven crew members. The explosion was the first in-flight disaster
in 56 manned U S. space missions. Christa McAuliffe, a teacher from New Hampshire, was one of the crew members.
