• Lake City saw its share of controversy in 90-91. City Hall rang with the
usual bickering and complaining as downtown stores went down the drain giving
Lake City a ghost town appearance.* The new Middle School concept brought rave
reviews from 7th and 8th graders at the new location on Summer's Road. It only
took a year to pave the quagmire in front of the school. • Lake City Community
College hit the headlines with the layoff of over 30 positions. The Governor's
office got involved and controversy swirled as court battles loom on the horizon. •
"Endtimers" made headlines with alleged child abuse charges against some of the
followers. Charles Meade's home become the focus of tv's expose programs.
Columbia High became the "tar" capital of the world! The new roof work took the
better part of the school year to complete. When the rain quit falling into the
building and out on the ground, a number of teachers had to move their cars to avoid
the rising waters in the faculty parking area. Travis Sandlin and Todd. Baker swam
out and moved the grateful teacher's vehicles. The improvements on the inside of
the building will be next. Getting the school back in shape has become a top priority
after years of neglect and abuse.
