Education = BRIGHTER FUTURE
By Eliza beth Van Arsdall
Did I hear correctly? Did I hear that education in the state of Florida
is behind the prison system on the priority list? Surely not. There
should be a concentrated effort to educate children so the opportunity to
commit crimes and injustices will not be as appealing. Why is the
emphasis on the wrong end of the spectrum, when it needs to be
focused on the children of tomorrow? People say that the world is going
down the drain. They are correct in some aspects, but what about
twenty years from now when the products of a low-priority education
are in leadership positions? What will people say then?
As a senior in high school, I would like to believe that I should mean
more to my representatives than a prisoner means to them. I view
prisons as a place where criminals go to be punished, not as a place
where they get to watch color television, play basketball, and eat better
meals than most low-income families. If that's punishment, then hand
me a gun so I can rob a bank, please.
Funding for education is vital for the future of the children. These are
innocent children and they are being punished. Action must be initiat-
ed if we are to have a decent future. Ignorance can be avoided. This may
mean a pay cut for some politicians. Heaven forbid they may have to
drive something other a Mercedes. Are you aware that the U.S. Senators
voted themselves a $23,000 salary increase? How can we avoid this kind
of leadership in the the future? Make an educated vote when election
time rolls around. Know the facts. Rock the vote!
Pallbearers Demetric Jackson, Brian Dicks and Kyle Keen carry the Education casket into the
funeral services.
The Education casket was buried in front of the school so that people Marlon Jones presented the eulogy during the Kumari Anderson presented some reflections
