With the beginning of the 93-94 basketball season came the beginning of a
new era of basketball; the Randall Leath era. A former University of Florida
player, Leath came to Columbia High with a hard working style of coaching.
Coach Leath sought the help of 92-93 University of Florida basketball
player, Scott Steward. Scott, who appears on the Florida basketball poster,
has been an asset as an assistant to Coach Leath. The team motto "The will to
win is worthless without the will to prepare," is indictive of the team's
attitude. With a new coach and a new attitude towards work ethic the Tiger
basketball program continues a winning tradition.
In the 93-94 basketball season, the Tigers went 8 1/2 weeks without a defeat.
In fact, it was the best opening season in over 25 years. Compiling an early
season winning streak of 17-0, the Tigers broke into the state polls at #9 in the
Class SA Division. During this streak, the Tigers reached two short term
goals by winning the Christmas Tournaments in Baker and Clay counties.
After the regular season, the Tiger Cagers came into the district with a perfect
8-0 record.
Outstanding defender, Kaylin Jackson shows there is more to the
game than Shooting.
