Mr. Getzen goes
For the GOLD
And gets it!
Mr. Getzen TROPHIES!!!!!
Mr. Getzen teaches Marine Mechanics and Agriculture Technology, as well as
Agriculture Mechanics here at CHS. All of his classes are hands on; he said,
"We learn by doing." He has received nine trophies in the past ten years,
placing within the top five finishes of the contests. They compete in planting
and tillage, welding, masrony, construction, irrigation, surveying, and wiring.
Forty-five to fifty-five teams participate in the Agriculture Mechanics contests,
and the top ten advance to state finals. No school in Florida can say that they
have competed in state, as Mr. Getzen and his students have. Going on their
second year, they have qualified first, by fifty-two points, which is a sizable
margin. "I have had hard-working, dedicated youngsters as along as I have
worked here," said Mr. Getzen, which he believes has led to their success.
