It was a cold, rainy afternoon with the smell of victory in the air. Each
class had a powderpuff football team which was allowed to put in a
week of preparation. This week traditionally includes learning plays,
positions, and the rules of competitive powderpuff football. Each
team was assigned colors they had to wear on the one and only game
day. Before finding out about this, the juniors decided to wear the
intimidating "all black'; that consisted of a black shirt that was spray
painted the night before with fluorescent hot pink. Yes, intimidation
was the name of the game! On game day, we were informed that we
were supposed to wear gold because it was our class color, and the
sophomores were given the color black. The players had a huddle and
made a decision to stick to our "gut feeling" and wear black. The teams
stretched, warmed up, went over plays, and shook off any game day
nervousness. After the captains met with the refs the madness of the
competitive class game began. In the first round, the freshman played
the juniors and the sophomores played the seniors. After elimina-
tions of the first round, the juniors and seniors were left for the much
anticipated championship game. These two classes have always had
~==:::=======:;--;:::============::: a big rivalry - competing for respect and "seniority': The game began
nice and smooth but as it progressed, things got intense and physical.
The final score was a tie. The juniors would've pulled off the victory if it
wasn't for their black shirt penalty. At the end of the day we're still one
school, with one heart, and will always represent the purple and gold.
