Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams
Kristin Hofmann - Graduate of Fort White High School
( Application for college financial assistance)
My name is Kristin Hofmann and I am 21 years of age and a Cancer
Survivor. I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on
1/11/00 at the age of 19.
Up to that time I had finished high school with plans of entering the
winter semester at our local community college.
My years in high school consisted of a regular academic schedule and a
member of the school dance team for 5 years. I was co-captain of my
Junior High Squad and lieutenant of my High School Squad.
I was awarded “Star Dancer” for Star Makers and NCA “All American”
with an opportunity to teach in their summer dance camps.
However, my life changed drastically when I was told I had cancer.
From that day all my hopes and dreams for my future were squashed and
my focus both mentally and physically became a daily battle to beat this
deadly beast.
Leukemia is not a disease that is cured with a little bit of medicine. You
are given tremendous amounts of toxic chemicals, chemo, intravenously
and intrathecal in your spine.
Bone marrow biopsies and spinal taps become routine. The pain endured
by such treatment, does not compare to the will you gain inside of you to
survive and become well again.
I have learned a lot about myself in the past 19 months.
I have been given a chance to be a testament to others who are stricken
by cancer. I have also been given the opportunity to be an assistant
coach and choreographer for our Junior High dance team for this past
year.
