Some Stuff I Wrote and Some Stuff I Didn't (2011) H. Morris Williams
Gray Almost Awav
Running from his own 44 Gray slipped inside right end and sprinted to
the Tiger 23 before the safety man halted him with a necktie tackle.
Donnie Hollis plunged to the 20 on the next play, but fumbled and
another march died.
Leon passes, which had been supposed to open up the enemy defense
this fall, failed miserably. The Lions wrecked their second half chances
with a series of incomplete heaves. Most of the aerials were wide of
their mark, but poor reception nullified more accurate attempts.
The Lions only completion in the second half came on a pass
interference play which cost Lake City a 15-yard penalty.
Leon, hampered by a flock of injuries to regular linemen, played ragged
ball most of the way upfront as the defenders had difficulty locating the
ball. Capt. Earl Brown played spirited ball, and K D Bliss came through
in a reserve role.
Lamar Gaskins blocked hard, particularly on the flanker plays.
