TWO SPECIAL CLASSES
In 1967, the CHS classes of 1917 and 1942 held a combined class reunion to
celebrate their gold and silver anniversaries, respectively.
Two noteworthy members of the CHS 1917 class in attendance were Jessie
Gleason, class valedictorian and namesake of Gleason Mall; and Nellie
Futch Tribble and her husband Dr. Harold Tribble (CHS 1912) who served
as president of Wake Forest University for 17 years.
In attendance from CHS 1942 were Martha Jane Brown, editor of the first
CHS yearbook to be called “Columbian’ and Jim Pitman, who later became
the all time Number One CHS fan by attending more than 600 CHS varsity
football games. Also, there was a Mother-Son in attendance: Civille Perry
Green (CHS 1917) and her son, Robert Louis Green (CHS 1942)
