The memorial at Lake DeSoto “is dedicated to those Law
Enforcement, EMS, and Firefighter Professionals of Columbia
County who unselfishly gave their lives to protect and preserve
the way of life for their fellow citizens. Let us never forget.”

More local people of the early 1900s

The county superintendents of public instruction for Columbia
County that decade were H.L. Avant (1897 - 1901), Thomas H.
Owens (1901 - 1909), and J.W. Burns (1909 - 1917).

The mayors of Lake City that decade were R. Rogers (mayor
1897 - 1900), F.P. Cone (mayor 1900 - 1902), Otis R. Parker
(mayor 1902 - 1904), J.E. Inman (mayor 1904 - 1908), S.P. Buie
(mayor 1908 - 1909), and J.B. Hodges (mayor 1909 - 1910). The
first mayor in the new century, Robert Rogers, besides being mayor,
was a state senator, president of the Farmers’ Alliance, and
superintendent of state convicts.
