The 1915 Lake City Columbia Baptist College course cata-
log had the following note: “Our Department of Physical Culture for
Young Ladies aims to make every effort to develop the body for health
and strengthen chest development being especially emphasized. All
errors of carriage in the body will be removed, such as stooping,
round shoulders, flat chest, etc.”
An article in the Lake City Reporter entitled “Death of Co-
lumbia College” pointed out that the president of the school, Dr. H.W.
Tribble, was a minister and regularly preached in outlying communi-
ties. On February 4, 1912, he traveled by train to one of those com-
munities, but - when he took a motor car that ran on the rails - a log
truck crossing the tracks collided with the motor car and injured Dr.
Tribble so badly that he died two days later.
