Lake City, Florida: A Sesquicentennial Tribute (2009) H. Morris Williams, Dr. Kevin M. McCarthy

The college struggled for another five years, but in the
end debt overwhelmed it, and those in control deeded the land
and buildings back to Lake City in 1919, thus ending Columbia
College. The V.A. Medical Center stands today where the college
                              used to be. 33

Dr. Tribble’s son, Dr. Harold Wayland Tribble, became a
minister like his father and later served as president of Wake Forest
                              University (1950 - 1967).

Among the Columbia College athletes who went on to pro-
fessional careers in sports was John Franklin “Stuffy” Stewart
(1894 - 1980), who played intermittently for such baseball teams as
St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Brooklyn, and Washington from 1916 to 1929.

Among the student groups at Columbia College around 1916
was the Ancient Order of Prevaricators (photo above).
