Lake City, Florida: A Sesquicentennial Tribute (2009) H. Morris Williams, Dr. Kevin M. McCarthy

Columbia High School in the 1960s

The smallest class was the 1960 one with 130 students; the
class with the most graduates was the 1967 one with 254. The 1965
class was the first one to have more than 200 students (230).

The 1962 class had the longest motto: “So nigh is grandeur to
our dust; so near to God is man; when duty whispers low, ‘Thou
Must,’ the youth replies, I can.’” - Ralph Waldo Emerson. The 1968
class had the shortest: “Vaya Con Dios” (“Go with God”).

Lorna Noel France Stammers from England became the
first exchange student to graduate from CHS (1964).
