About the co-authors
Morris Williams (on the left above) was born and grew
up in Lake City, Florida. He graduated from Columbia High School
in 1950 and from the University of Florida in 1958 with a Master’s
degree in Education. He has worked mainly in public education
throughout his career, having served as a teacher and school
administrator. For over 10 years he has been a weekly columnist for
The Lake City Reporter, writing mainly about the history of Lake
City and Columbia County. He and his sons Dave and Chris still live
and work in Lake City.
Kevin McCarthy (on the right) has a B.A. in American
Literature from LaSalle College (1963), an M.A. in English (1966)
and a Ph.D. in Linguistics (1970), both from the University of North
Carolina – Chapel Hill. He taught in the Peace Corps in Turkey for
two years, in Lebanon one year and in Saudi Arabia for two years,
both as a Fulbright Professor, and as a professor of English and
Linguistics at the University of Florida for 35 years. UF named him its
Distinguished Alumni Professor before he retired in 2005. He has also
taught in Vietnam twice and in Spain twice and has had 44 books
published.
