Lake City, Florida: A Sesquicentennial Tribute (2009) H. Morris Williams, Dr. Kevin M. McCarthy
Scenes around Lake City in 2009
This building, now a church, was the site of the last downtown
walk-in theater in Lake City, known first as the Columbia,
then the Gateway Theater. The first three downtown theaters
were the Grand, the DeSoto, and the Lake.
Local lore has it that unknown persons broke an inmate
out of this former city jail in the 1920s, took him to
Red Clay Hill south of town, and murdered him.
No one was ever arrested for that murder.
