Lake City, Florida: A Sesquicentennial Tribute (2009) H. Morris Williams, Dr. Kevin M. McCarthy
Chapter Seven 1870 - 1879
The county superintendents of public instruction for the 1870s
probably included these men: P.A. Holt (1869 - 1870), A.H.
Hutchingson (1871 - 1873), A.A. Hoyte (1874 - 1875), E.G.
Johnson (1875 - died in office), A.A. Hoyte (1875 - ? - removed
from office), W.R. Moore (1877 - 1879), and Julius Potsdamer
(1879 - 1885).
The police chiefs that decade, as far as can be determined,
were Ruben Charles (1865 - 1870), Harry Drake (1870 - 1874),
Dan Moore (1874 - 1878), and Gottschalk Potsdamer (1878 -
1880).
A Civil War widow’s pension document found in the archives
of the School Museum in Lake City may have belonged
to a local resident.
