A Columbia County Boy's Recollections and Memories of Columbia County Florida (2012) Lenvil H. Dicks

far as Lake City, where they spent the night, and I am told that they decided that Lake City would be a
nice place for them to open up a joint practice, and that is what they did.

After Dr. Bates and Dr. Harkness had given up on Gordon Granger, Dr. York happened to come into the
hospital and walk by the room where Mr. Granger was lying, and apparently he knew Mr. Granger. He
asked one of the nurses what was Gordon Granger doing in there and the nurse told him what had
happened. He asked “Do you mind if I look at him?” and of course permission was granted. He went in
and did a quick appraisal of the situation, apparently, and came out and told one of the nurses “get on
the phone and get Lou Landrum over here as quick as you can, cause I think we can save this man”.

In a few minutes Dr. Landrum was there, and he also of course looked at Mr. Granger and told Dr. York
“Well, we fixed them up when they were in a lot worse shape than this” so they undertook the task of
doing surgery on Mr. Granger, and indeed patched him up, saved his life, and he lived many, many
more healthy years, and conducted his various businesses as if nothing had happened.

All this had happened a long lime before I knew Mr. Granger, and he never mentioned it of course, but I
found the story to be fascinating, considering how active and vigorous was the Gordon Granger I knew.
