A Columbia County Boy's Recollections and Memories of Columbia County Florida (2012) Lenvil H. Dicks

told the salesman to count it sold. I was coming to Lake City that night, the Lord spoke to me and said,
“It’s time for you to have another automobile”. Lenvil told me to come by the office when I got around,
I did, and he took me to the Lincoln place, the car was round back being serviced, Lenvil said, “What do
you think of that car”? I said, “1 like it, anyone would like that car”, he said, “Do you want it”? I said,
“God talked to you, didn’t he?” He said, “I was in here when it was traded in, and God said, “That’s
Jack’s car”. 1 drove the car way over 100,000 miles.

One day Lenvil said, “I believe I over paid on my income tax, pray that I’ll get my money back and
we’ll go car shopping”. One day later he told me on the phone, “1 got my money, what kind of car do
you want?” I said, “You’ve been talking ‘bout the Lexus, I said I want a Lexus with 4 tires, 4 doors, a
steering wheel and GPS and a commode”. Lenvil said, “I don’t think we can do the commode”. He took
me to the Lexus place in Orlando, we drove back two beautiful cars, I believe that was the last day of
                 August 2005.

One amazing thing to me, was on the way down to Orlando, Lenvil asked me, “What color car do you
want?” I said, “I want a red car”, we looked at a white car Lenvil liked first, I asked the salesman,
“Where are your red cars?” He said, “We don’t have a red car in the place”, my heart dropped.

We drove the white car which was 2005, when we came back, I said to the salesman, “No red cars,
huh?” He said, “You know while you all were gone, a truck came in with a load of new cars, it had one
red car on it”. We had to wait for it to unload, when we looked at the car, the salesman was reading the
paper on the window and exclaimed, “This is a 2006 model”. I said, “So”, Lenvil said, “Forget it”. We
looked around, but came right back to this beautiful car, they call it, “Black Cherry Pearl”, Lenvil said,
“Write it up”. He told someone, “1 bought Happy Jack and me a car, and mine is already a year older
than his”. I have almost 300,000 miles on it, it has been such a Blessing!

I could not possibly tell of all the pretty places I’ve got to go and see, if Lenvil had not taken me. We’ve
been to every state except three. It was truly a Blessed day in my life when I met Mr. Lenvil Dicks!

One time we were on a long stretch of highway, Lenvil was playing some music he wanted played at his
funeral, we were actually having a little church. Lenvil looked down at the gas gauge and said, “We’re
out of gas”, he cut the air off and we were hoping and praying. Finally after what seemed an eternity, we
were able to pull off to a service station, as we coasted in and stopped, Lenvil opened the door to get
out, I asked, “Are you going to check the price?” We have laughed a lot about that, especially when I
mentioned the look on Lenvil’s face and what he said, he said, “I don’t care if it’s SI 0.00 a gallon”!

On all the trips we made, Lenvil was practicing his trumpet every day, 1 recall the time he played some
in amongst the Giant Redwoods was the most memorable time for me, though he never played but what
1 enjoyed each time he practiced.

One of the highlights of one of our trips was getting to spend a night at Pat Summerall’s home in Texas.
He and Lenvil are friends from a long time back. Lenvil slept in the bedroom that President Gerald Ford
stayed in when he and Pat would get together for golf. After everyone was up, I slipped in and lay down
on the bed for a minute, so I could say I had lay on the bed where a President lay.

Of all the miles we ever traveled and of all the places we ever stayed, we never had to share a bed, and
we both were happy with that.

Once again I want to thank God for letting Lenvil come into my life. God has always given me the best
of everything, and I believe he gave me one of the best friends anyone could have had.

And he didn’t tell me to say that! Happy Jack Gideon
