GETTING DRUNK
I have never been one to partake of alcoholic beverages to a very great extent. 1 will confess, however,
to being quite drunk and out of control at one lime in my life.
In so happens that my brother- in- law, Eric Markham, and my brother- in-law, Otis Stewart, together
with Horace Markham and Ralph Witt, went on an overnight camping fishing trip to the Santa Fe River,
and those fellows had bought a couple of bottles of SeaBo wine, which is a cheap sweet wine.
They allowed me to share in drinking the wine, and since it went down so easy and tasted so good, I
found that I had badly overdone it, and in about 45 minutes I was as drunk as a coot. They were all
amused at that, and the next morning they told me that for the next couple of weeks, having been drunk
on that cheap wine, that every time I took a drink of water I would get light headed all over again. This
turned out to be true, so maybe it was not such a cheap drunk after all, since I was privileged to enjoy it
over and over.
1 got so sick on my stomach when I was drunk on that wine, that I never for the rest of my life drank
another alcoholic beverage to the point of feeling it from that stand point. At agel6 I got drunk, but
never again. As long as Eric and Otis lived, we would all look back and laugh about that night when I
got so drunk, and also so sick. That is a life experience I have no desire to repeat.
