A Columbia County Boy's Recollections and Memories of Columbia County Florida (2012) Lenvil H. Dicks

Uncle Walter only had 2 children, a daughter named Emilyn, and a son, Elvin.

Uncle Press had 4 children, Shirley, Bertie Mae, Alice, and R.P. Jr. (Bob). Uncle Drew’s first wife died
when his third child was small, and the 3 children by Aunt May were Louise, Lola Mae, and Ned. After
Uncle Drew married his second wife, along came Galena, Roosevelt, Archie, Wayne,'Tercie, and Quinn.

Uncle Roy Dicks had 3 children, Marceline, Roy, Jr., and Patricia.

My dad’s youngest brother, P.T. (Trammel) also had 3 children namely Dorothy, Leveenia, and Wayne.

On the Tyre side ofthe family my mother had the same children of course that are listed above as being
children of John Dicks. Her sister Frances, who married Gordon Douberly, had Thelma, Edna, Loretta,
Vivian (whom we called Tumpy) and one son, Oral Douberly.

My mother’s brother, Gordon Tyre, had 4 children, named Curtis, Bernice, Louise, and Grady.
(Gordon’s children were my first cousins on my mother’s side ofthe family, and my third cousins on
my daddy’s side, since Uncle Gordon’s wife, Elsie, was the daughter of my Great Uncle, Joe Dicks, and
therefore their children are related to me on both sides of the family).

My mother’s brother, Uncle Jess Tyre, also had 4 children, namely Genevieve, Margaret, Caroline, and
                Gene.

My mother’s sister Hilda, who had married Ernest Williams, had 2 children, Ernestine and Estelle. Aunt
Hilda died when Ernestine was about 5 years old and Estelle was about 4. My Aunt Kate Herndon,
raised these 2 girls, along with 2 boys of her own, namely John William, and Wondell.

My mother’s sister, Aunt Clara (whom we all called Aunt Babe) had 2 children by her husband, Allison
Pearce, namely Rudolph and Charlotte. Allison Pearce was known as Doc Pearce, and he died from
Tuberculosis when Rudolph was about 8 years old, more or less. Rudolph and I were pretty close in
growing up, and although he has lived in New Hampshire for many years, we still see each other and
spend a little time together every year or two. Aunt “Babe” had two more sons by her next husband,
Paul Crews, and she named them Everett and Wayne.

My mother’s sister, Aunt Essie, married Ewell Stalvey, who was also my Grandpa Dicks’ stepson. The
way this came about was that after Grandma Dicks died, Grandpa Dicks married Florence Crews
Stalvey, who was a widow at that time of course, and she had the one son Ewell, who was close to the
same age that my daddy’s youngest brother, Trammel, was at that time. The last of Ewell Stalvey’s
teenage years were spent at the home of my Grandpa Dicks. Essie and Ewell had one child, a daughter
named Joyce, who is married to David Douglass.

My mother’s only other sister, Myrtle, passed away when she was less than 30, and although she had
been married to a fellow named Sheppard some years previous, she never had any children.

The foregoing information is mostly of interest to only those people that are related to me, but I felt it
wise to include that information in my book.

Uncle Drew’s oldest daughter, Louise, had, as-her step-grandmother, Florence Crews Stalvey Dicks, by
her marriage to her Grandpa Dicks, and upon Louise marrying “Cotton” Crews, Florence also became
her aunt, since Florence was a sister to “Cotton’s” dad, Will Crews.

                                                                                                             223
