A Columbia County Boy's Recollections and Memories of Columbia County Florida (2012) Lenvil H. Dicks

What Sybil then related to me was that her mother had told her that Joseph Dicks on his death bed, at
which time he was living with aunt Sis, had called her to his bedside and said to her, “Sarah you know
about the Ku Klux taking me out and whipping me after the war don't' you?" Aunt Sis told him that she
had heard something about it, but it was not generally discussed openly by the rest of the family. Then
he told her, according to what Sybil told me, “Well, before 1 die I just want somebody to know one
thing. I knew who they were from their voices, and I want you to know that I killed everyone of the
                sons-of -bitches”.

I guess if Sybil wanted someone in the family to know about that conversation on great grandpa Dicks’
death bed, after my book comes out there’s no doubt that the family will know about it.
