A SPECIAL THANKS

First of all, I would like to express my undying appreciation and thanks to my secretary, Nanci Brinkley,
for the tremendous amount of work she has done in typing this book.

I have dictated the entire book on many, many tapes, and I am sure that I am not the easiest man in the
world to transcribe off of an audio tape. She has done a marvelous job at capturing what I have said, and
getting it down on paper, and 1 do want her to know that I am fully aware of*the immense amount of
work she has put into typing this book.

My unbounded thanks to Nanci!

I want to give additional thanks to all of those people that have touched my life in one way or another,
and have been of some influence, whether great or small. At my age 1 am not going to try to remember
the names of all the ladies with whom I have come into contact and have been influenced by, and I have
two reasons for not trying to set forth a list of those ladies. First, at almost 84 years of age, there is no
way that I can cause my memory to function well enough to remember all of them, and therefore there is
no escaping the fact that some would get their names left out. Secondly if I tried to list all the ladies who
have been influential in my live, some of them would put two and two together, and possibly come up
with the wrong conclusion. Even worse, some of them might put two and two together, and come up
with the correct conclusion.

Thirdly I want to be fairly upfront and honest about the fact that most of what I have learned in my life, I
have learned from females. All of my teaching in Science, Mathematics, English, and other subjects
have been from the lady folks. 1 am always indebted to them for teaching me. The one exception is my
musical training which has come altogether from the male species.

So therefore ladies, just let me thank you as a group, and not try to name all of you. If you should have
your name left out of a specific list, you would never forgive me. I therefore am including a list of all of
my male influences that have influenced me during my lifetime, and that list is alphabetized at the back
of this book. There is no doubt that 1 have left some names off that list of my male friends who should
have been included, but I cannot possibly think of each and every one of them. To those of you who
should have been listed, and got left out, I sincerely apologize and ask you to forgive me on account of
my advanced age.
