                                   The Two Best Speeches

                                               November 22, 1994

Teachers Debbie Odom and Bettye Lane recently gave two of the best speeches I have ever

heard. Debbie, Columbia County Teacher of the Year, spoke at the Public Schools Foundation
banquet with such inspiration that the audience of 195 gave her a rousing standing ovation. Bettye,

1993 Teacher of the Year, delivered such a beautiful eulogy at the funeral of her dear friend, Eulene
Wheeler, that it touched the heart of every person there, perfectly describing Eulene’s great life as

           mother, musician, and master teacher.
TEACHER TALK .,. Within one month, we lost four of our county’s most outstanding

educators: P. A. Browning, Sr., Grace Moore, Minnie Ruth McGhin, and Eulene Wheeler.
Congratulations to Wanda Claunch and Melvin Goggins who were named Teachers of the
Month at CHS North Campus for the first two months of school.

Kudos to Ron “Doc” Salzburg, also a teacher at CHS North, who has been commended by
“Keep Florida Beautiful, Inc.” for demonstrated leadership in the area of environment stewardship.
