competing in the "Big Leagues."
Pressure mounted days before the
game and finally Friday came.
Because of a state playoff rule, only
44 players were allowed to dress out.
The rest, who had not watched a
game from the stands during the last
two years, joined the multitude in the
Gator Bowl.
On their initial possession, the Tigers
marched 70 yards for a TD, with Kip
Gardner running it in. Raines, helped
by a fumble, scored next and went
for two. The Viking lead was
short-lived as the Tigers clawed for
two more touchdowns in the first
half; a 9-yard run by James McClellan
and a 23-yard pass to Lamar Williams.
However, Raines was known to be a
" second half" team. After stifling the
Tigers' offense in the first possession
in the second half, Raines rambled
for a touchdown and two-point
conversion to narrow the gap to five
points: 21-16. A key play in the final
quarter occurred when Tiger
Defensive Tackle David Weiffenbach
rose up and stopped the Vikings on a
fourth and one. This ended the
scoring threat and from there, the
Tigers iced the game by scoring with
a minute twenty-three left to play.
The final score was 28-16.

Region Champs, the Tigers traveled
to Doak Campbell Stadium in
Tallahassee to meet the Leon Lions.
The battle of the Lions (passing) and
the Tigers (running) , was a conflict
that ended statistically even-except
for the score. A bitter 20-14 loss
dashed the Tigers' hopes for a State
Championship.
Leon struck first with a 5-yard
touchdown pass, but missed the
extra-point attempt. The Tigers
roared back to score twice more in
the first half; the first score
culminating a long drive, the second
score came from an interception by
Ronnie Drake, but a clipping penalty
brought the ball back to the 27. A
fourth down 19-yard halfback option
pass from Kip Gardner to Mike
Kahlich connected for a touchdown.
That score concluded the first half
scoring with ten minutes remaining
in the quarter.

attack, the Tigers went to an unusual
