A Wounded Tiger Fights Harder

                                            Injuries to key players contributed
mightily to a 21-20 defeat engineered
by Lee High . Almost every Tiger
                                            offensive play saw QB james
                                            McClellan being roughed by several
                                            dark-shirted opposition players.
Near the end of the half, james was
injured on a busted play, suffering a
                                            neck sprain. Another key injury
occurred early in the second half on
                                            the Tigers' first offensive series;
                                            Fullback Tony Robinson left the
game with his right knee injured . As a
result, the Tigers were bereft of not
                                            only their starting quarterback and
                                            fullback, but also their punter.

Halftime witnessed a 14-7 Tiger lead.
In the second half, despite gutsy
                                            performances by reserve QB Kenny
                                            Owens and reserve fullback Tommy
Young, the Tiger offensive team was
stifled for but 6 points, coming with
four minutes left in the game. A try
for two points failed. Lee scored
                                            twice in the second half.

The defense played a fine game,
                                            forcing numerous turnovers; Charlie
                                            Charles intercepted a pass, junior
End Chris Harris recovered a fumble,
                                            and Safety Doug Lowrey recovered
                                            another fumble. The defense was

            also wounded as Cornerback Marty
            Martinez developed an infected foot
from the game and was not able to
            play in the next two.

To tie for the district lead with
            Wolfson and Fletcher, the Tigers
needed a win over the former.
Tension hung blanket-like in the cool
Lake City air following an 80-yard
            touchdown drive by the Wolfpack,
            who received the initial kickoff.
            Likewise, the Tigers balanced the
score with a similar long march, and
            they proceeded to dominate the
            game until the final whistle.

Following the duo of drives was a
            period of defensive dominance
            which lasted until Tiger Defensive
            Tackle David Weiffenbach recovered
a fumble deep in Wolfson territory,
with but three mirrutes remaining in
the half. A Tiger TO resulted in a 14-7
            halftime advantage.

            Highlighting a wide-open scoring
during the second half was an 86-yard
                                                                                                                               2
punt return for a touchdown by
Senior Steve Nail. The game ended as
a 43-21 Halloween win for CSHS,
             returning the Tigers to playoff
            contention.
