The Girls "That Got That Spirit"
The Varsity Cheerleaders got an ·
early start in preparing for the 1977-
78 cheering season.
Tryouts were held on April 8, 1977
after two weeks practice. The 77-78
varsity squad consists of the 9 se-
nior and junior girls. The seniors are
Lisa Kirkland, captain, Margaret
Payne, co-captain, Tana Duckett,
Lillian Gray, and Bonnie Gerlach.
Junior members of the squad are
Cathy Towsend, CeCey Wynn, Bar-
bie Canaday, and Kelly Carson.
Uniforms were gotten together and
cheers were practiced many hours
before they attended the NCA camp
at Jacksonville University for one
week. But all the work seemed
worth while as they received the
2
spirit stick for having the most spirit
. and two excellents and one superior
rating in competition.
After they returned from camp the
work really began. Preparation for
pep rallies, and games, painting
signs and pampering the football
team all seemed to fall in line.
Homecoming had then arrived. The
cheerleaders sold shakers to earn
money for new homecoming sweat-
ers. That week seemed like chaos.
The big tiger had to be painted, the
undersigned sign had to be made,
and everyday some special treat
was given to each football player.
Wow it was hard work.
After all the work and preparation
which seemed to go on forever, we

looked back and really saw how
much fun it was. The Rah Rah Gals'

leader can do. 2. Stretch out your arms, Mar-

team work for the Varsity Cheerleaders. 4.
