The Army Reserve Officers Training Corps
program is a way of helping our country maintain
a strong, active Army and a standing reserve of
trained citizen-soldiers to protect us in time of
trouble.
In 1973, Congress changed the law to allow
females to be enrolled as cadets. I am thankful
because this change has enabled me to become
a member of the Corps. I am in my fifth year and
I've enjoyed every minute of it. It's rough being a
girl in a "male" organization, but I've survived
and become an equal. I was the only female com-
pany commander last and have been Gtrls Drill
Team Commander since tenth grade while also
maintaining an active role on the Color Guard.
The respect that I have was earned by hard
work.
The things that I have learned while in this
program will beneftt me in the "real world" but
the one thing that I will carry with me for the rest

and your unit.
