                                                                                       The CHS football  team welcomed  in  their
                                                                                      brand  new  football  stadium with  another
                                                                                      successful  season  in  1994/1995,  defending
                                                                                      the District 2-6A title.  The Tigers started  the
                                                                                      season with a  10-7  Kickoff  Classic  victory
                                                                                      over eventual 4A stale champ Santa  Fe.  The
                                                                                      next game was the start of the regular season
                                                                                      at Gainesville High. The Tigers dominated,
                                                                                      winning  28-0.  Next  was  the batUe  for  the
                                                                                      "Old Oaken Buckel," and also the first game
                                                                                      m  the new stadium, "The Jungle."  Although
                                                                                      the  game  was  delayed  one  night  due  to
                                                                                      exce  sive  rain  and  lightning,  the  Tigers
                                                                                      christened  the  new  tadium  with  a  24-14
                                                                                      win. Then, the Tigers achilles heel  came  to
                                                                                      town,  the  Buchholz  Bobcats.  The  Bobcats
                                                                                      continued to have the Tigers number, with a
                                                                                      28-25  win  that came down to a  last-second
                                                                                      field goal that the Bobcats blocked  to seal the
                                                                                      victory. Buchholz running back Leon  Payne
                                                                                      rushed for 273 yards in the game. The Tigers
                                                                                      also cilme up on the short end of a 14-0 score
                                                                                      the  next  week  at  home  against  the
                                                                                      Valdosta(Ga.) Wildcat  . The Tigers were now
                                                                                      2-2 and badly in need of a win. They  got that
                                                                                       in  the  next  week  at  Citizens Field  against
                                                                                       Gainesville Eastside. Their 1(}.6 victory ended
                                                                                       their tw~ame . kid and  ran their record  to
                                                                                       3-2. In their district opener at Lake Weir,  the
                                                                                       Tigers  look  an  impressive  first  step  in
                                                                                       defending  thei~ district  title  with  a  38-7
                                                                                       victory. This gave the Tigers an overall record
                                                                                       of  4-2  and  1-0  in  the  district.  Next  was  a
                                                                                       home  game  against  SA  powerhouse,  the
                                                                                       Rutherford  Rams.  Last  year,  CHS  spoiled
                                                                                       Rutherford's  homecoming  and  the  Rams
                                                                                       came seeking  revenge.  However,  alter  the
                                                                                       Rams scored  a  go-ahead  touchdown  with
                                                                                       7:591eft in the game, Jamille Bullock's 88 yard
                                                                                       kickoff return gave  the Tigers  a  13-12 lead
                                                                                       that proved to be the final score. The Tigers
                                                                                       were now 5-2 heading into next week's clash
                                                                                       at district foe St. Augustine. The Tigers wore
                                                                                       out the 'Jackets with a 35-13 win. This gave
                                                                                       the Tigers a  2-0  district  record  and  a  6-2
                                                                                       overall  record  heading  into  next  week's
                                                                                       homecoming  lilt  with  the  Middleburg
                                                                                       Broncos .....
