.••. The Broncos were "Welcomed to the
Jungle" with a 42~3 thrashing at the hands of
the Tigers. This victory clinched a playoff
spot for the Tigers and gave them a 7~2
record (3-0 dist.). However, the district title
was up for grabs next week as Orange Park
came to town sporting a similar 3-0 district
record. The winner of this game was the
district champion and earned a first-round
playoff game at home. The Raiders took a 7-0
lead early on, but it was all Tigers from that
point on. With a 27-14 victory, CHS won the
district championship and ran their all-time
district 2-6A record to 8-0 with two
undefeated seasons. The Tigers now hosted
Pensacola Washington in the nrst round uf
the state playoffs. CHS had good reason to be
optimistic about their chances against
Washington; the Wildcats had been

season, Rutherford, 41-10. After the first half,
however, the Wildcats proved they were
worthy opponents as the halftime score was
21-21. The sctond half was aiJ Pensacola as
they held CHS scoreless and won 42-,21. The
Wildcats went on to win the 6A state title.
Although the Tigers couldn't get their playoff
monkey of their back, they did have a great
season and further established themselves as
one of Florida's elite high school football
programs.
