The Fort White High School band is directed by
Mr. Amaya and consists of 35 members. Each year the high
school band puts together a show to perform during the half·
time of football games. This year, the band's show had an
Elton John theme in which the songs performed were:
"Crocodile Rock, • a medley consisting of the songs "Benny
and the Jets• and "Saturday is Alright, • and to end the show,
"Your Song.• A joke was made about the song "Your Song•
when Mr. Amaya would tell the band to get "Your Song• out
to play, someone would usually blurt out, "My Song?" Mr.
Amaya would then tell the jokester to pay a quarter because
of their monotonous humor.
The high school band also participated in many
other events. In October, the band participated in a patriotic
event held at Memorial Stadium in Lake City, that recognized
all that occurred and those involved with the aftermath of
the terrorists attacks on the World Trade Center In New York
and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday,
September n , 2001 . The idea for this event originated from
a patriotic citizen of Columbia County. During November
and December, the marching band also performed in three
parades . the Veteran's Day Parade on November tenth, Baker
County's Christmas Parade on December first, and Lake City's
Christmas Parade on December third. During March, the
band performed In front of judges at a Florida Bandmaster's
event.
A few stud nts also participated in an event
called "Solo and Ensemble. • This event gives students a
