History Related to Methodism and Early Settlement in Florida (1961) Esther Bernice Howell Haworth




                   Charles  H.  B-  Collins,  born  June  21,  1798  in  South  Carolina.  He  was  called
            “Squire” Collins, and from Vol. 24 “The Territorial Papers of the United States pages
             967-659-478-527-580—He was appointed Justice of the Peace of Columbia County 2 -
             13 -1834, also in 1838, on on page 527 “C. II. B. Collins got his commission from the
             Secretary  of  the  United  States  Treasury;  page  580  in  1839  signed  a  petition  in
             reference  to  Dade  Institute  of  Florida;  Tustunnuggee  Methodist  Church  was
             organized in his home in 1846. He died June 12, 1868, his headstone still stands in the
             remains of “Old Bethel” Cemetery.

                   James  John  Andrew  Collins,  son  C.  H.  B.  and  Ann  Mary  Robarts  Col-  lines;
            was  bom  May  19,  1827,  in  Camden  County,  Georgia.  (Other  children  of  the  above
            were  bom  in  East  Florida—one  being  bom  in  1823  “at  the  Ship  Landing  in  East
             Florida;”  and  one  in  1836  at  “Fort  Lancaster,”  the  times  possibly  made  it  necessary
             for  Ann  Mary  Robarts  Collins  to  enter  the  fort  for  his  birth—some  of  the  children
             prior to this had been bom in Georgia.) James J. A. Collins died Sept. 15, 1872, the
             headstone of James A. still stands in the remains of “Old Bethel” Cemetery.

                   George 0. E. Robarts was bom May 17, 1857. He was the son of William Henry
            Thomas and Sarah Goodbread Robarts. George 0. E. Robarts died July 16, 1869- His
             headstone still stands in the remains of “Old Bethel” Cemetery.

             X William  S. Goodbread, was bom February 9, 1833 in Georgia. He was the son of
            John  Sarling  and  Charity  (Crews)  Goodbread.  He  was  soldier  in  the  Florida  War
            where  lie  served  as  a  Lieutenant  in  Wright’s  Company.  He  died  Oct.  22,  1859.  His
             headstone  still  exists  in  the  remains  of  this  oldest  existing  Cemetery  in  Columbia
            County—“OLD BETHEL.”

                   Ann  (Andrew)  Robarts,  daughter  of  JOHN  and  Ann  (Lambright)  Robarts;  bom
             January 11, 1770; died November 29, 1852.

                      Abram, Isaac Robarts, son of John and Mary Labright Robarts. (Mary was the
                daughter  of Anthony and Violet  Lambright) Abram.  Issac Robarts, was born Oct.
                25, 1770; died Jan. 11, 1832.

                      John  Starling  Goodbread,  Sr.,  who  was  born  in  1797  in  Camden  County
                Georgia; was a soldier in the war of 1812. He died Aug. 18,1885.

             V  Charity  (Crews)  Goodbread,  wife  of  the  above  mentioned  John  Starling
                Goodbread, Sr.

                    !  “Dr.  Sowder  Goodbread,  son  of  John  Starling  and  Charity  Goodbread  who
                was killed’ in the service of the Confederate Army.”

                      “John  Mcp.  Berrieen  Goodbread  who  was  the  son  of  John  Starling  and
                Charity Goodbread. John B. was a former Sheriff of Camden County, Georgia.

                      Joel Niblack, son of William and Dennie Tyson Niblack; bom June 29, 1811;
                died August 28,1841.

                      Samuel Niblack, son of William and Dennie Tyson Niblack.
