CAPTAIN ARTHUR ROBERTS

The following was stated by Mrs. Maj- Vinzant Perkins in a history— Historical
Souveniers stai-ted some years ago. “Among the early settlers and “Builders of
Columbia County Was Captain Arthur Roberts. He was a veteran of two major wars.
The Seminole or Seven Years War (1835- 1842) and The Civil War (Oct. 3. 1861 - Feb-
1, 1863); he held numerous positions of trust throughout his life time serving not only
as a tax col- lestor for Columbia County in 1842 during Florida’s Territorial days, but
as a justice of the peace in 1847 and’ 1848 (appointment by Governor William D.
Moseley). He was a member of the board of County Commissioners for 13 years
