History of Military Units in Columbia County, FL (1970) Robert Gary Shields

                          THE BOYS FROM THE U.S.A.
1 We are the boys from the U.S.A.
Soon to be in the thick of the fray.
0 come and join this loyal crew '
And trust our captain wise and- true.
He will bear us ?.safe over every shore
And guide us on to the rightous goal.
2 Our boys will rally when danger is near,
And wait the captain's voice to hear.
                          When forces seem to overwhelm.
We'll trust the hand that holds the helm.
. Then lift high the banner of the cross
The soul that bears it ne'er suffers loss.
3 Beyond war's tossing fitfull sea
The good land lies where we would be
                          Soon with Pershing's loyal band.
                          We must capture Kaiser^s land.
Then we'll hear the home bells chime,
While music rings from every chime.
                                          By Walter Kinard.
                                                Fort White, Fla.

                          SPIRIT OF 1918
As we march and drill over field and hill,
                          All the livelong day,
We are thinking of the time at last,
                          When we shall sail away
Cross the ocean's foam to the Boches home.
                          'Until he's licked to stay.
Let the home fires burn until we return
                          When every battle's won.
For our soldier true will dare and do.
                          Until we lick the Hun.
Because each one knows that where ever he goes
                          That he's his mother's son.

We'll be faitful too, to Sweethearts true
                          By coming back to them.
Whose smiles and tears will calm our fears
                          While fighting battles grim.
Keep honor and joy while we are away
May her thought be of HIM
                                                            *
Our American flag shall never drag
                          Through
While American boys can make a noise.
                          Quite worthy of their'task.
It's farewell, friends, till the war ends,
                          We'll play a losing game.
